Since fresh spring asparagus in abundant supply, not to mention frequently on sale, it was the perfect time to try a special asparagus soup I had been eyeing for a long while.  With its crowning centerpiece of a roasted garlic custard, it makes an elegant first course for a special spring dinner.

Asparagus Soup with Parmesan Custards

April 5, 2013

After our long, dreary Chicago winter, I saw my first worm on my patio the other day, followed by my first robin the next day (24 hours too late to catch that worm which had skedaddled—if a worm is capable of skedaddling, that is), with that followed by the first sale of the season on [...]

The Best-Ever Italian Wedding Soup

I have a feeling that if I took a poll and asked people what their favorite soup was growing up, it would be chicken noodle soup (probably Campbell’s) with tomato soup a close second—also Campbell’s!

Turkey Soup

November 28, 2012

I hope you didn’t throw away your Thanksgiving turkey carcass!  I didn’t have the energy to make turkey soup this past weekend, but my turkey carcass is split in two and safely stored in my freezer.  The grand finale to our Thanksgiving dinner after traditional leftovers which, of course, includes a repeat of the holiday [...]

Creamy Chicken and Wild Rice Soup

November 16, 2012

We had a pot luck at work this week, and I was daring and made a huge batch of this soup which I had never made before.  I very rarely make something to bring somewhere without it being a tried and true recipe—or, at a minimum, it’s something I’ve made at least once before.

November 8, 2012

The weather has gotten cold and raw here in the Chicago area which means soups and stews are favored in the weekly meal rotation.  I was happy to add this delicious chicken and sweet potato quinoa stew to my repertoire after seeing that every single ingredient on the list was either a favorite and/or a [...]
